Sherlock Holmes was first published in the year 1887 in a magazine. The author's first story, A Study In Scarlet, made waves across Britain and people yearned for more. Soon, more and more such stories began cropping up in local magazines. Holmes's eccentric character and his brilliance made him a favorite of the audience and endeared him to them. His partner in all of his expeditions was Dr. John Watson. Watson is seen as the perfect foil to the eccentricity of Holmes and acts as a calming influence. Sherlock Holmes is eventually killed along with his arch enemy in a hand fight in the story, The Final Problem.

The Best of Sherlock Holmes is a compilation of some of the best Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
